Why FPL Butler exists
I've played FPL for over fifteen years, and I love this game. Over the years I've played with my friends, people from work, my family, and I kept noticing the same thing. Engagement is highest at the start of the season, and that's usually when it's the most fun. Everyone is excited, everyone is talking FPL. Then, as the season rolls on, the regular player loses focus a bit. Everyday stuff takes over. Life happens. And honestly, it's easy to lose interest when FPL goes against you and you watch someone pull away at the top. A few months in, by Christmas, and definitely towards the end, a lot of the people you started with have fallen off completely. The chat, the banter, the interest, it all slowly fades. I always thought that was such a shame. Some of the most fun I've ever had in this game was having engaged FPL players around me, in my own circle, not just on social media.
So I started writing a weekly recap for my league. I congratulated the winners, roasted the losers, and made up a couple of weekly awards that I judged myself. That little addition created more enthusiasm in our league than in a long time. People nowhere near the lead looked forward to their little shoutout in the group. Everyone looked forward to making fun of the mate who made some horrible choices. It became a small weekly highlight. And those small pushes, and the discussions that followed, quietly reminded everyone about the deadlines, week after week. Nobody wants to be the one nagging everyone to make their transfers, but a recap does it for you. And when people see that everyone else is engaged, they want in too.
I don't think my approach was unique. Plenty of people have written recaps for their league, and there are bots that can post standings and stats. But writing it by hand every week took time, and I started slipping. There was also so much more I wanted to do for the league that I never got around to, because I knew it would take too much effort. That's where FPL Butler came from. It's an app that could deliver those weekly recaps for me. I built the first version in the summer of 2025, and back then that was all it was, a static page with a summary of the week. But the more we used it, the deeper I got. It became my passion project, and the ideas kept coming. After about six months someone asked me why I didn't make it available to everyone. So that's exactly what I've done.
I want FPL Butler to be a platform for your friend group, your work league, your family league, and for the casual player who doesn't spend hours a day on X. A platform that creates engagement, gives you insight, and makes FPL fun for everyone. That's FPL Butler.
