Bonus points (BPS)
Bonus points are the 3, 2 and 1 extra points given to the three highest scorers in the Bonus Points System in each match. BPS is a separate running score that rates every action a player takes on the pitch, and players who finish level on BPS share the bonus between them.
From BPS to bonus
Every match has its own BPS table. Goals, assists, saves, defensive actions and passing all add to a player's BPS, while errors and fouls take away from it, and the three players at the top of that table when the match ends are awarded the bonus. BPS is not the same thing as your FPL score: it decides who gets the bonus, nothing else.
From 2026/27 the projected bonus is shown live from 20 minutes into each match, so you can watch it move while the match runs. It stays provisional until the gameweek locks at 09:00 UK time on the day after the last match, and that is when the bonus is added for good.
What changed for 2026/27
Clearances, blocks and interceptions are now worth 1 BPS for every three actions, where they used to be 1 for every two, so a defender has to work harder to climb the table on defensive work alone. Players no longer lose BPS for being tackled, which stops dribblers being punished for taking players on.
Goalkeeper saves have been restructured, although a save from a shot inside the box is still worth 3 BPS. The net effect is that goals, assists and clean sheets carry more of the bonus than they did, and volume defending carries less.
Example
A defender scores, keeps a clean sheet and puts in a string of clearances, finishing the match on 33 BPS. The two players behind him on 31 and 27 take 2 and 1 bonus points, and he takes 3 on top of the 12 points the match already gave him.
