Gameweek

A gameweek is one round of Premier League fixtures, scored in Fantasy Premier League as a single block. A season has 38 of them, and each one has a single deadline 90 minutes before its first kick-off, at which your team is locked.

Deadline first, then live scoring

Transfers, the captain armband and your bench order all have to be set before the deadline. Once it passes, the eleven you picked is the eleven that scores, and the only changes left are the automatic substitutions the game makes for players who did not appear.

From 2026/27 your points, your overall rank and your mini-league tables update live while the matches are played. Everything stays provisional until the gameweek locks at 09:00 UK time on the day after its last match, which is when bonus points and automatic substitutions are confirmed and the score becomes final.

Thirty-eight of them, and not all alike

A full gameweek has ten fixtures, one for each of the twenty clubs. Cup rounds and European commitments force matches to be moved, so some gameweeks leave a club without a fixture and others give a club two, which is what blank and double gameweeks are.

That is why planning happens in gameweeks rather than in weeks. Free transfers roll over, chips are aimed at a specific round, and a fixture swing three gameweeks away is usually a better reason to move than last weekend's scoreline.

Example

Gameweek 7 starts with a Saturday match at 12:30, so the deadline is 11:00 that morning. The transfer you make at 10:45 counts towards gameweek 7; the captain change you try at 11:05 does not, and lands in gameweek 8 instead.

Method

Behaviour is computed from each manager's official FPL gameweek history (transfers, points hits, bench points, chips and team value). Picks data is never used. Figures cover managers whose gameweek history runs from the opening gameweek to the final gameweek of the season, so managers who joined after the season started, and managers who stopped early, are excluded. Transfer counts include moves made on wildcard and free hit gameweeks, which cost no points. A hit means a gameweek with a positive transfer cost. Team value is the squad value including bank at gameweek 38, in millions. Percentiles use the nearest-rank method and medians the classic midpoint method. Managers with missing or corrupt data are excluded. The sample skews toward managers in active mini-leagues.

Managers who played the whole 2025/26 season in FPL Butler's season archive, meaning their gameweek history runs from the opening gameweek to the final one, so managers who joined late or stopped early are excluded. Managers enter the archive because they play in crawled mini-leagues or national country leagues. The crawler prioritises leagues that look active, so this sample is more engaged than the full global player base and behaviour rates should be read with that skew in mind.
