Bench Boost

Bench Boost is a Fantasy Premier League chip that makes your four substitutes score for one gameweek, so all 15 players in your squad count instead of the usual eleven. It is activated before the deadline and applies to that gameweek only.

When managers play it

The chip is worth exactly what your bench happens to score, so the usual plan is to save it for a gameweek where all 15 players have a fixture, ideally a double gameweek where several of them play twice. A bench of cheap enablers who are rotated or injured turns the chip into a handful of points.

Because the bench scores in its own right during a Bench Boost, no automatic substitutions are needed: nobody is left to come on.

How many you get

In 2026/27 the chips come in two sets, one for each half of the season, so every manager gets two goes at the Bench Boost. The first set has to be used before the Gameweek 19 deadline on Saturday 2 January 2027, and a chip left unplayed at that point is lost rather than carried over.

Example

You go into a double gameweek with a full bench: a goalkeeper and three outfield players who all start twice. They score 34 points between them, and the Bench Boost adds every one of those points to your gameweek total.

From the archive

Managers played the Bench Boost 2,417,200 times over the 2025/26 season. Figures as of 24 May 2026.

Method

Behaviour is computed from each manager's official FPL gameweek history (transfers, points hits, bench points, chips and team value). Picks data is never used. Figures cover managers whose gameweek history runs from the opening gameweek to the final gameweek of the season, so managers who joined after the season started, and managers who stopped early, are excluded. Transfer counts include moves made on wildcard and free hit gameweeks, which cost no points. A hit means a gameweek with a positive transfer cost. Team value is the squad value including bank at gameweek 38, in millions. Percentiles use the nearest-rank method and medians the classic midpoint method. Managers with missing or corrupt data are excluded. The sample skews toward managers in active mini-leagues.

Managers who played the whole 2025/26 season in FPL Butler's season archive, meaning their gameweek history runs from the opening gameweek to the final one, so managers who joined late or stopped early are excluded. Managers enter the archive because they play in crawled mini-leagues or national country leagues. The crawler prioritises leagues that look active, so this sample is more engaged than the full global player base and behaviour rates should be read with that skew in mind.
