Hit

A hit is the points cost of an extra transfer: every transfer you make beyond your available free transfers in a gameweek costs 4 points, deducted from that gameweek's score. Two extra transfers cost 8 points, three cost 12, and the deduction is shown as a negative next to your gameweek total.

Free transfers first

You get one free transfer each gameweek, and in 2026/27 unused free transfers roll over up to a cap of five, so a patient manager can bank several and make a batch of moves at once. Only transfers beyond that bank are charged.

Transfers made while a Wildcard or a Free Hit is active are never charged, which is the whole point of those chips. Both come in two sets in 2026/27, one for each half of the season, and the first set expires at the Gameweek 19 deadline on Saturday 2 January 2027.

When a hit is worth it

The break-even is simple: the incoming player has to out-score the outgoing one by more than 4 points over the period you keep him, not just this weekend. Hits taken to replace an injured player who would otherwise score zero pay for themselves quickly. Hits taken to chase last weekend's hauls usually do not.

Example

You have one free transfer and make three moves before the deadline. The first is free, the other two cost 4 points each, and your gameweek score is shown with a deduction of 8 points.

Method

Behaviour is computed from each manager's official FPL gameweek history (transfers, points hits, bench points, chips and team value). Picks data is never used. Figures cover managers whose gameweek history runs from the opening gameweek to the final gameweek of the season, so managers who joined after the season started, and managers who stopped early, are excluded. Transfer counts include moves made on wildcard and free hit gameweeks, which cost no points. A hit means a gameweek with a positive transfer cost. Team value is the squad value including bank at gameweek 38, in millions. Percentiles use the nearest-rank method and medians the classic midpoint method. Managers with missing or corrupt data are excluded. The sample skews toward managers in active mini-leagues.

Managers who played the whole 2025/26 season in FPL Butler's season archive, meaning their gameweek history runs from the opening gameweek to the final one, so managers who joined late or stopped early are excluded. Managers enter the archive because they play in crawled mini-leagues or national country leagues. The crawler prioritises leagues that look active, so this sample is more engaged than the full global player base and behaviour rates should be read with that skew in mind.
