Why are there so many country leagues?
The United Nations has 193 member states, yet FPL runs 254 country leagues, 61 more. The list follows the international country-code standard rather than a political map, so every territory with its own code gets its own league. The four UK nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) each have one, and a separate United Kingdom league holds 5,897 managers who picked that instead. Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey appear as leagues of their own, as do overseas territories such as Gibraltar, Faroe Islands, Greenland and Hong Kong.
Some codes belong to places where almost nobody lives. Antarctica has 2,006 registered managers, the smallest league, Netherlands Antilles, has 0, and 96 of the 254 leagues have fewer than 1,000 managers. Every one of them is still counted here, which is why the country table on this page runs so long.
